Myer-Briggs Type Indicator Essay

The Myers-Briggs type indication is a emotional test that may be based on the theories of Swiss Doctor Carl Jung. The test divides people into 16 distinguishable personality types, based on high and low scores upon four “scales” (Zemke, 1992).

On the basis of all their answers for the test, individuals are classified because extraverted or introverted, sensing or user-friendly, thinking or perhaps feeling and judging or perceiving (Langton, Robbins and Judge, 2013). The MBTI has been used by lots of organizations around the globe to assess communication styles of their employees and potential hires. Trainers and organization creation specialists frequently use the MBTI in team development and marketing and sales communications training (Zemke, 1992).

In a report released in September 1992, the Nationwide Research Council Committee on Techniques for the Enhancement of Human Overall performance concluded that trainees see their very own MBTI effects as “true” and beneficial. Eighty-four percent of army officers explained the MBTI confirmed the actual already knew about themselves. A significant percentage believed they would find this confirming reviews valuable in their very own work associations (Zemke, 1992). The MBTI test may also be used by educational institutions such as Yorkville University to assess their college students personalities and exactly how they would procedure the learning environment. Different personas approach on the net learning in various ways (Russell, 2002).

On an individual level, I believe that the MBTI can assist an individual monitor their expansion in many different areas of their lives including job, family and additional relationships. After completing the seventy-two question test, my results were quite according to my feelings. I received the outcomes ESFP with Extraversion staying 89%, Sensing at 12%, Feeling in 38% and Perceiving for 22%. Extraversion is defined as a personality element that identifies the degree to which a person is friendly, talkative and assertive.

Sensing types happen to be practical and prefer routine and order. Feeling types depend on their personal values and emotions. Perceiving types are flexible and spontaneous (Langton et. ing, 2013). I have completed previous tests through other University or college courses and through companies and my own results have invariably been towards extraversion. As in the above mentioned case, I used to be again leaned more to extraversion than any other in the personality types.

I believe the fact that MBTI can often be inaccurate depending on an individuals feeling and attitude when taking test. In-spite of their popularity, evidence is combined as to whether the MBTI can be described as valid way of measuring personality – with almost all of the evidence indicating that it is not (Langton et. al, 2013). The one problem with the test is that it pushes a person into one type pr the other sometimes individuals may be both introverted and extraverted to some degree.

General, I believe this can be a good general psychological evaluation that companies should incorporate when hiring or marketing new persons. REFERENCES: Langton, N., Robbins, S. G., and Judge, T. A., (2013). Company Behaviour.
