“The Kugelmass Episode” opens with Kugelmass, a middle-aged, unhappily committed humanities mentor seeking the advice of his analyst, Doctor Mandel. He is bored with his your life, and he needs to have an affair. His expert disagrees, however , telling him “there is no overnight cure” pertaining to his problems, adding that he is “an analyst, certainly not a magician. ” Kugelmass after that seeks out a magician to help him fix his problem.

A few weeks later, he gets a call through the Great Persky, a two-bit magician/entertainer who reveals him a “cheap-looking Chinese pantry, badly lacquered” that can travel the professor into any book, short story, enjoy, or poem to meet the woman figure of his choice.

During their time collectively, Emma complains about her husband, Charles, and her dull non-urban existence.

Kugelmass tells her about life back in New York, with its nightlife, fast cars, and movie and TV stars. Emma wants to go to New York and become an actress. He wants to commit committing suicide or run away. But the equipment is fixed at last, and Kugelmass rushes Emma to Persky’s and in the end back to the novel. Kugelmass says he has learned his lesson and definitely will never defraud again.

Yet Kugelmass is at Persky’s door once again three several weeks later. He is bored and wishes another affair. Persky alerts him which the machine is not in use because the earlier “unpleasantness, ” but Kugelmass says he wants to do it, and requires to enter Portnoy’s Complaint. But the cabinet blows up, Persky is thrown back and has a fatal heart attack, and his home goes up in flames. …

He is conflict with him self. He is not pleased with his second wife. He always wants to other woman. But he does not really content with these people because he does not know what he wants. Mr. Kugelmass exterior conflict He is in conflict with environment. Because he is a famous professor, he does not want to be learnt his exclusive life. If his private lifestyle is learnt his lifewill became worse. The individuals around his condemn him because of adultery and this damages his reputation.

Humour

Humor is used in this account with a sense of total absurdness of events that occur in the story. These events vary from Persky stating “If I throw any kind of novel into this pantry with you, closed the doors, and tap three times, you will find yourself projected into the book”. To the absurdness of Emma Bovary, from a famous part of literature made in 1856, stating “Tell me about O. T. Simpson” and asking Kugelmass about other people, places, and events through the 20th hundred years.
