Juan Sobre Oñate was a famous Philippine explorer, “colonial governor in the New The country of spain province of recent Mexico, and founder of varied settlements in the present day American Southwest” (Shi & Mayer, 2010). Juan Para Oñate struggled to gain support for his explorations as a result of his birth background as a criollo. California king Phillip 2 was not wanting to support his expedition initially, but as a result of Juan Sobre Oñate’s relatives wealth Ruler Phillip 2 agreed to support him monetarily.
Oñate bought his prosperity from his father Cristobal de Oñate who was a conquistador/silver junker Spanish manager from Spain. Some of Oñate’s wealth also came from getting married to “Isabel sobre Tolosa Cortes de Moctezuma, ” the granddaughter with the Spanish conqueror and great-granddaughter of the Aztec emperor” (Shi & Mayer, 2010). Juan De Oñate had two children from his marriage with Isabel sobre Tolosa Educado de Moctezuma and after her death that motivated his decision to learn and govern New Mexico (“Juan sobre Oñate, ” n.
g. ).
In our opinion, we believe that any man that had superb wealth can easily influence the Ruler, particularly when he promised to enhance the king’s wealth. Even as read with this document Oñate pursues the king, and any prosperous Spaniard, to contribute to his exploration appealing the members riches and other rewards. As well, everybody needed a piece of the newest world’s riches as it was a hot asset to all of them. Juan De Oñate at first seemed like a good person, although later showed his accurate colors. In his letter, he mentions all of the wealth that someone could gather in the event that they opt to join him. Oñate allows them understand that anything that that they could ever want would be in their fingertips.
He as well mentions that he would provide “liberty and favor to all” (Shi & Mayer, 2010), who plan to join him. He reports that he would make this happen, simply by opening the doorway wide open. Did you ever hear the expression, “if it appear too great to be accurate, then it probable is. ” Well it turns out that liberty and benefit was just for the people who share similar believes and views since Oñate. Oñate soon gained a standing as a stern ruler of both the The spanish language colonists as well as the indigenous people (Unknown, 2010). Oñate did not have an excellent relationship with all the Acoma tribe. In one celebration, Oñate demanded goods in the Acoma tribe and the Acoma tribe were not happy about this. The Acoma responded to the demands by killing twelve Spaniards including Oñate’s nephew. Oñate responded by attacking the Acoma tribe and “amputated the left ft . of every Acoma man over the age of twenty-five. Eighty men experienced one of their feet amputated though other commentators place the figure of these mutilated in twenty-four” (Shi & Mayer, 2010).
