The composition “Disabled” is usually taken from Wilfred Owen’s number of poetry called Trench Poet person. It was drafted in 1917 and explains to the story of the soldier who have lost his limbs in battle giving him utterly helpless. This aims to smash the glorified image of war present in the minds from the public.
The messages and content present in the poem heavily look like that of different poems from the collection just like; “The Send-Off”, which also uses contrast to show there is little pleasure to be found in war.
In “The Send-Off” men happen to be riding away to an unknown place on a train. Distinction can be found in line three because it says “and lined the train with faces grimly gray. ” The distinction in the poem, though not the same as “Disabled” is still used to make a somber strengthen.
It is meant to tell someone that though war can be exciting often there is the knowledge at the back of the soldiers’ minds that they may perish the next day.
In the composition being analysed “Disabled” one can see a wide range of contrast involving the character’s past and present. Once again, even though the contrast can be shown differently, with respect to the framework, it has similar purpose. Taking a look at the past in comparison to the present shows that the enthusiast not only would not find fame but rather shed it when he “threw away his braches, “(line 10. )
Going for a closer check out “Disabled”, one of the things that stands apart the most is definitely the switch in tone in line 15-20. The composition was very impactful personally as it seriously expressed the sorrow plus the desolation which the man who also sacrificed almost everything for my country felt. We am a north american. As a north american it makes me sad to see such sacrifice hit with such tiny response.
