gers The Baseball catchers in the Rye, is what I think to be one of the well-developed
characters which I have learned about. He has many characteristics which have been
every his individual, such as the way he sights the world, his friends wonderful
family members. One of the main points that brands Holden, is that way
that this individual thinks the entire world is artificial.
Holdens look at of the world as phony is an extremely strong 1, and
in most cases, is correct. Holden considers that the majority of the
people in the world are putting on some type of an action to impress or perhaps
befriend people. In such a way, Holden is most likely correct in thinking that
most of the people this individual came in connection with are phony, such as his
bunkmate at Pencey, Ward Stradlater. In one illustration, Holden refers to
Stradlater as a magic formula slob.
He identifies how Stradlater always attempts
to be neat and tidy on the outside so as to win over people, yet how he
is not at the time you get to know him. In the scene where Holden and
Stradlater will be in the may, and Stradlater is getting ready for a date
Holden identifies Stradlaters razor blade as rustic as terrible and filled with lather
and frizzy hair and garbage.
Another of Holdens run-ins with phonies, came to him while this individual
was at New York City. He was lonely and looking for someone to hold him
company, therefore he cell phone calls a girl named Faith Cavendish.
Having been told regarding
Beliefs by a good friend of his who attended Princeton, Eddie Birdsell. If he
calls Faith, she gets no prefer to talk to him whatsoever, and she makes
that quite clear, till Holden drops the name of Eddie, and the girl
quickly perks up at the thought that all Holden may be an important
person. Your woman asks Holden where hes calling from, and he replies a phone
booth, and he tells her that he does not have money, and she after that tells Holden
that she has little time. The wat that Faith changes her mind and so quickly
when the girl finds that Holden does not have any money can be described as prime example of the
phonies Holden encounters.
An additional general sort of what Holden thinks is usually phony is actors. This individual
talks about how G. B. required Phoebe and him to determine Hamlet, and he discussions
about Sir Laurence Olivier, and exactly how the perform would have been good
except that Olivier knew having been good, and this spoils that.
Holden says
how he cant go to a play pay attention to what the actor is saying
because he has to keep worrying about if hes going to do
something phony every minute.
Holden has another incident with phonies when he invites Sally Hayes on
a date. Holden takes her to a play, which he considers artificial as it is
but then in intermission, Sally meets a male who she hasnt viewed for
years, and in addition they began a big phony take action. Holden says
Youve even though that they hadnt seen the other person for twenty years they
probably possibly hugged and kissed investigations and all.
This is the kind of
habit that Holden obviously never grew up with, isnt used to, and
doesnt like.
Through his encounters in Nyc, and his various flings with
artificial women, Holden grows to trust that everybody in artificial in some way.
He thinks that the complete world is definitely phony, and its particular not likely that
everybody in the world is corrupted or perhaps phony, therefore is it possible that
each of the characters in the novel are all really regular and Holden is
really the only artificial one?
