Baseball catchers in the rye plot composition

When an individual is fresh, they tend to have innocence information. As children grow up, they will no longer possess this kind of natural innocence. Exposure to all the hatred on the globe causes this kind of loss. Holden Caulfield realizes this actuality, as he him self grows up, and has a hard time with the transform. He experiences problems with interaction as well as his school work. A common theme employed throughout The Heurter in the Rye has to do with contradictions Holden makes.

In T. D. Salinger’s The Heurter in the Rye, first person viewpoint is used to focus on contradictions Holden makes over the novel.

Holden’s first conundrum becomes obvious in the starting chapters with the book. In terms of attending films, he claims that he will not enjoy the company of Robert Ackley or going to see movies. But, he attends a show with Ackley. Upon Friday nighttime, while Stradlater was over a date with Jane, Holden made his own plans.

Holden, Mal Brossard, and Ackley went out for a burger and a movie. “¦ decided we’d take a coach into Agerstown and have a hamburger and perhaps see a terrible movie. (36) Due to the use of first person perspective, we find away Holden’s interior thoughts rather than just relying on his actions. Likewise, later on in the novel, Holden goes to just one more movie, irrespective of his declare of certainly not enjoying them. While in the movie theater, he becomes extremely frustrated with the woman sitting subsequent to him. She cried throughout the whole movie more than, in Holden’s words, artificial stuff. “¦ there was a woman sitting subsequent to me that cried through the goddam photo. The phonier it got, the more the girl cried. (139) We discover Holden’s inner thoughts due to first person perspective.

We can find another conundrum dealing with Holden’s hatred of movies. When he attends the first movie, this individual goes with Robert Ackley, although Holden previously told all of us that this individual dislikes him. Holden says that this individual finds Ackley to be completely annoying. Yet , he was the main one who asked Ackley along. “I asked Mal in the event that he minded if Ackley came along with us¦ Mal said this individual didn’t head but that he was not too in love with the idea. (36) This quote helps display another contradiction of Holden’s through Salinger’s use of first person point of view. Holden also searched for Ackley being a form of ease and comfort after his fight with Stradlater. Holden experienced no one otherwise to turn to after the fight aside from Ackley. “I had a feel Ackley’d almost certainly heard every one of the racket and was awake, so I experienced the shower curtains and into his room (46). Salinger again uses first-person point of view to demonstrate even more on this contraction.

One other contradiction that can be found has to do with Sally Hayes. Although Holden cell phone calls Sally a phony, this individual still decides to spend a night with her. In his mind, he continually say how much he cannot stand Sally and how much she annoys him, yet he expresses that he loves her. Holden extends his contradiction by necking with Sally at the back of the taxi, and still continually think about the reality he hates her. “I told her My spouse and i loved her and all. It was a lie, of course. (125) Holden’s real thoughts regarding Sally stand proud of the different statements with the use of first person standpoint. Holden also goes as far as trying to run away with Sally. He communicates a need of jogging away and living on their own, right after phoning her a problem in the butt. “I was getting excited as terrible the more I believed about it, and I sort of come to over and got old Sally’s goddam palm. What a goddam fool I was. (132) This conundrum was proven through the use of first person point of view.

First-person point of view is employed by M. D. Salinger to show Holden’s contradictions in the Catcher in the Rye. Holden contradicts him self on a regular basis; it leads him to believe that he is crazy. Due to the fact that he has a problem with communicating in front of large audiences, letting his feelings out became an issue. His biggest battle included his interior thoughts, as well as the words this individual actually expressed out loud. We can find the majority of his contradictions through this battle of words.
